The day we have been training for finally arrived. We woke up as early as 5am,bathe and got ready to go. To our dismay, when we reach the custom, there was a long jam. To make matters worse, all 8 of us were all squeezing into the small 6 seater rental Kia Carrens. Although we were all squirming about like sardines in a tin-can, the air in the car was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. All of us wanted to go and see what and how a paintball tournament is all about. No traffic-jam will stop us!

When we finally reach Octville, it was already 10.30am. Yup, we have missed 1 game.There was no time to dwell on the lost though, we geared up, did a few warm-up exercise and ready to Rawk n Roll!

13 Dec 08:

1st Game: Lose Walk-over by Team Shooting Rage (We were stuck at Wdls then Tuas Checkpoints for 2.5 hrs thus we couldn't makeit for the first game)

2nd Game: Win By Walking-over Team Black Rangers(B.R didn't turn up thus W.O by all teams )

3rd Game: Lose With Team Phonex United or i like to call The Cili Padi's. Its KARMA's First Play thus the real deal was shocking... However we did great learning and observing from our first game.

4th Game: Lose With Team Lanun Selatan. KARMA's Second Play was better. Learnt from the first game alot. However didn't manage to conquer.

5th Game: Win With Team Phonex United. Better communication, Better angle coverage. 3 man standing, Yusri ' Gurkha', Sali ' The Kid' and the one bringing the Flag home - Fir 'Agent Orange'

6th Game: Win With Team Shooting Rage. This game was definitely better. Faster pace. more Garang in taking risk. Last man standing and yet again the man to bring it home - Fir 'Agent Orange'

14 Dec 2008:

7th Game: Win By Walking-over Team Black Rangers(B.R didn't turn up thus W.O by all teams )

8th Game: Lose With Team Lanun Selatan.

After tabulating the scores our rank was 8th. Just barely making it to the Quarter-Finals. LoL!

Quarter-Finals

9th Game: Lose with PSG Warfreakz. They were fast n furious! We tried to play defensive but that was a big mistake. THe won the round as soon as it began. We didnt know what hit us.

10th Game: Lose with PSG Warfreakz again :( This time round we held the ground a bit longer. Still Warfreakz gain 'real estate' real fast!

Though disappointed we couldn't make it to the Semi's, we were all still happy and contented.
Whats more, we made plenty of great friends. Other teams pop by our resting area and contribute tips and strategy, telling us how they got us and how to improve. Thats the reason why we're at JPL. To learn more about the game. Winning is secondary.

I couldnt think of any other better words to describe the malaysian paintball community. They're all a friendly bunch of guys. Sum are even crazee but still friendly nonetheless. We had fun hanging out with them and took lotsa pix. There was a small surprise too, Amok from Team Damnation and Judas86 came all the way down to support us. Dez was there too taking great shots! Hope u dunt mind me grabbin' a few shots from ur website Dez :P

When everything was over, we all went for a great relaxing Jacuzzi bath at Octville. And it cost only 15RM per peeps! (Oh I still owe Khalid that amount. heh heh.. Ah well I noe he wunt mind anyway.)

Anyway a great big CONGRATULATION to the winners of the Rookies Category!

Date : 26 Oct 2008.

Time : 1000hrs till 1400hrs.

Rendezvous (RV) at Woodlands 0730hrs.

Return-To-Home (RTH) by 1800hrs...hopefully.

Location : Armour Paintball @ Octville Golf and Country Club, JB.

Attendance : 15 Confirmed attendance. No more vacancy left.

Transportation Plan (NEW!!):

We are arranging for 1 x 12 seater Van. 1 x Car.
CAR [5 pax total] : Fazli (Driver), Faizal, Mas, Hani, Fauzi
VAN [11 pax total] : Ameer (Driver), Isnaen, Khalid, Yusri, Irwan, Andrew, Sali, 3 x Sali's frens, 1 x Isnaen's fren
BIKE [ 2 pax] : Isham (Rider) and partner

Water and Ration : Bring your own water supply and rations. We will try to bring additional water but it will not be cool drinks this time round due to logistic issue.

Paintballs Usage Plan :

A total of 5 boxes, of 2000 paints each will be used through out the training. Total amount used is 10000 paints. Each player will use an average amount of 700paints.
If the amount is found to be insufficient, an additional box can be purchased at 275RM; which is 18RM per player with 133paints each.
Costing is estimated at 112RM per player. However do bring enough RMs in the event we might need to top up paints.

Training :

Do some read-ups on Paintball websites especially SplatXD Online Magazine to get a better understanding on the BPP. I will try to provide more info on the trainings as well at Sūtra.

Expected rounds to use: 700 to 1000 rounds per person. 5 Box as starters. Estimated cost per person: 120RM - 150RM (Costing not inclusive of transport) Will confirm this by 15Oct08.

Things to bring : Long-sleeved Shirt, Long Pants, Covered shoes that are suitable for fields. Toiletries, Passport, Disembarkation card, Pen, Water, Enough RMs!

This skill is essential for players to maximise your capabilities when behind a bunker. When you only shoot with your master hand, you only strain to 50% of your playing style. Learn this Art.

Lane Discipline

Do you always face that same occasion over and over again; where the plan is set, you're all 'amped' up and ready to rock n roll. And suddenly when the game begins, you and another team-mate runs to the same bunker. All of a sudden you find yourself squeezing in, avoiding the never-ending barrage of paints. Thank god the bunker is a medium sized CAN. What if its a small BRICK? Well, you can always hug him and pray your opponents did not see you and your team-mate there. BUT suddenly your team-mates looks at you, gave a big grin and says "Sorry bro, its for the good of the Team" and gave you one good kick out of the bunker!

Ambush - "Ok SpiderMunkee, you take LANE 1, NOODLES take LANE 3, Im taking LANE 2"

In this Post, we will learn about Lane Discipline.

Lane Discipline is important to avoid players from running to the same bunker.
It is easier to relay information to Team-mates, ie AMBUSH is bunkered down by PUCHAKA in Aztec 1, but he doesnt know where he is. So he shouted for help from NOODLES, 'LANE 1 HOT!! I cant move forward. NOODLES check LANE 1!' NOODLES spotted him and relay back info. 'He's in AZTEC 1!'

Be able to spot key bunkers, thus identifying the LANE to be defended. ie, 50 SNAKE is a key bunker and it is inside LANE 3. Both side of the team would need to push their FRONT players to that bunker to have an advantage. So if a player has been tasked to defend LANE 3, his job is entirely dedicated to help LANE 3 clear of any threats to his FRONT player, giving his front player an ease of mind from being bunkered down and focus on doing more damage.

Once break-out, the respective players will dash to their respective bunkers

RED will run to FRONT 1, and all the bunkers in LANE 1 will be his area of responsibility. If RED is to move forward to another bunker, he is only allowed to move to the bunker only in his LANE.

BLUE will go to Front 2 and all the bunkers in LANE 2 will be his area of responsibility. If BLUE is to move forward to another bunker, he is only allowed to move to the bunker only in his LANE.

GREEN will go to BRICK 6 and all the bunkers in LANE 2 will be his area of ressponsibility. If GREEN is to move forward to another bunker, he is only allowed to move to the bunker only in his LANE.

There you have, the final lay-out of the Bunker Codes. All you have to do next is to walk the field with your team-mates, get your team to call-out every bunker by its codes, do some small drills, or better yet do a 2-sided game of hide and seek.

Now that sure beats from getting all those black-eyes. :P

What we have gone through is based on a simple lay-out of 'Recreational Speedball' where the lay-outs are simple and the bunkers use are the 'common' types such as Brick, Can or Tombstones. How about a 7 man Tourney Field? Check out below..

There are various ways of identifying and naming the Bunker Codes. But the concepts are almost similar. What is most important is that all team-mates are comfortable with calling out the Bunker Codes.

And with more experience I believe Team Karma will do well to discover our own 'style'. Better yet we can go hay-wire and give bizarre out-of-speedball-context names such as BRAZIL 1 for Back 1 or ROJAK for the Center 50 for its 'mixed type bunkers' or ROTI KERING for the Snake ( Roti Kering means dry bread..) LOLZ!

Now that we have seperated out all the prominent bunkers; ie Front Bunkers, Back Bunkers and 50s Bunkers, we now only have the balance bunkers to be named. Lets hatch-out all the Prominent Bunkers first..

One way to name the balance bunkers is by grouping them up together. Here we can see a clear cluster of CANs and BRICKs. The left one out is the AZTEC.

We'll do the CANs cluster first. From here we can see that it stretches itself all the way out from left hand side 20s till the right hand side 20s. We'll simply name it as Can 1, Can 2, Can 3..till Can 6 on our side of the field. (Remember the examples here shown are on assumption that our team Break-out on the Left Hand Side of the field.)

Question : Why do we name it Can 1 on the opponent side and ended with Can 6 on our side? Should we do it the other way around?

Well yes you could. It depends on the Team 'comfort-level' of communication. My rationale on choosing Can 1 from the opponent side was simply that most of the time, team-mates will call-out the bunkers occupied by the opponent instead of ours. Thus by having to work on small numbers is much easier to be identified and called for.

So lets say 'Ambush', playing Backman, wants 'The Kid', playing Frontman, to move to Can 4 while he will cover his back at Can 6". He could say this "KID!! Move to CAN 4!! I'll COVER YOU!!" Thats all..he doesnt need to say he's at Can 6 LoLz!! Frontman just gotta trust the backman :D

Okay now lets move on. What bunkers do we have left? Ah..the BRICKs cluster and the lonely Aztec. The BRICKs are abit tricky due to that both are almost on the same yard-line. Remember how we name both our FRONT and BACK bunkers. Yup the numbering from left to right as 1,2,3 and then moving to our own side of the field, again from left to right.

The paintball field is almost similar to any other sports field. It has a midfield line and both sides of the teams have a Flagpost which is the objective, ie to win the game by obtaining your opponent flag at their flagpost or winning the game by just touching the opponents flagpost. The bunkers are divided along the 'yard' lines. To a new-comer they look random and difficult to be distinguished. Lets take a look again slowly and see if we can crack the mystery of the Field Location.

Key points :

All yard lines have numbers allocated to it. From 10, 20, 30, 40 then the Midfield 50, before going back to a reverse count on the other half, ie 40, 30, 20 then 10. In actual fact, why the number are in tenths is that its taken exactly from American Football Fields where fields are marked by lines that are a difference of tenths. Paintball field are smaller so it is actually 1 yard, 2 yard..but naming it in tenths are a norm in the paintball community.

The Midfield 50 is known as just 50s (pronounced fifties)

50s will usually have bigger and sometimes unique shapes consisting of a combination of bunkers. In our last training, it was a Big Tombstone with 1 Brick on each sides at the center and a 'Snake' consisting of a Rollie and 1 Brick angled on the sides.

The other half of the field will have the same 'mirrored' bunker layouts.

Both ends of the fields at the 10yard line are prominent features as well (Because they are located at the very end..Duh!) Naming these Bunkers are easy. Starts with a 'Back' followed by the numbering, from your left to right as 1,2,3..onwards.

If your team starts from the left side of the field, then the bunker allocation would be

BACK 1 for Back Corner Left Can,

Back 2 for Back Center Can

Back 3 for Back Corner Right Aztec.

How about your own side of the field? Its the reversal instead of 'Back', we'll call it 'Front' and still followed by the numbering, from your left to right as 1,2,3..onwards.

FRONT 1 for Front Corner Left Can,

FRONT 2 for Front Center Can

FRONT 3 for Front Corner Right Aztec.

Lets try naming the bunkers at the 50s. Center 1, 2, 3? Well in some case yes but a rule of thumb is to first isolate the most prominent Bunker. In this case, the Big Tombstone with 1 Brick on each sides at the center of the 50s. We'll name that simply as Center 50s (its at the 50s and located right in the center of the field)

Left 50s Can for the Left Can at the Midfield
Center 50s for the Big Tombstone with 1 Brick on each sides at the Midfield
50s Snake for the Right Rollie with the angled Bricks at each end at the Midfield

Sometimes we could see 'Snake' bunker (some would call them Zipper or Ladder) which would stretch from the 30s on one half of the field, through the 50s then to the other half of the field at 30s. To name such special bunkers is to first find the 'break' in the snake usually recognisable by the protruding bunkers such as Bricks or even Doritos. Thus that portion of snake will be named as Snake 1, Snake 2, Snake 3 and so on till the end of the snake at the other half of the field.

Having to know the Bunker names are easy. But how do we apply them? How do you warn your teammate that a particular bunker is occupied by an opponent and that he is running to it??

Hmm ok how bout this..you shout "Hey Drew!!! Be Careful, You're running to that CAN bunker up ahead that has an enemy hiding behind it!!!!"
Sounds good. Drew will get your message loud and clear. But by the time he does, he will be fill with fresh paints on his face, adding some new bruises and possibly a hurt ego, when on his way back to the Deadbox and then you said " I told you so.."
You'll end up getting a blackeye on your face.

So lets all save the trouble of getting any more black-eyes and learn Bunker Codes.
Bunker Codes are short and clear messages to identify a particular bunker. So instead of having to shout "Be careful of that Can at line 40!!" you could say "CAN 4 Hot!"

And Yes all bunkers have names. To not know them is like to not knowing what is your girlfren's name. So read up and memorise all the names for each bunker. Learn how it look like, where it is usually placed, how it smells, how to 'hug' the bunker when you're under fire and how to snapshoot from it.

CAN: A large cylinder bunker which is standing vertically.

ROLLIE: A can placed horizontally.

DORITO: A three-sided pyramid-like bunker

TEMPLE: A four-sided pyramid with the top cut off.

SPIKE: A triangular prism shaped bunker, taller than it is wide

CONE: Circular base with a point tip.

BRICK : A rectangular bunker.

TOMBSTONE: A bunker shaped like a stereotypical tombstone, rectangular with a round top

SNAKE: A snake is a long, low structure (less than 1 meter (3 ft) high) usually located on one or both sides of a field. The snake is a unique setup because it allows a player to advance a considerable distance while still being protected from incoming fire from most locations on the field. It is also generally placed at midfield and gives the best position to fire on the opposing team.

Introduction to Speedball

This was one of the first few play-off games we played on our 5v4.
Left Team : Hazard, SpiderMunkee, Ambush, Nnemonic and Gurkha
Right Team : The Kid, KuDer, Drew, Noodles.

Left Team played aggresive, trying to hold up to the 40s during break-out, with 3 Back and 2 Front. Right Team played a steady and tight defense with 3 Back players holding their 30s Line and 1 front ( Noodles going up to the Small Tombstone on the Right 40s line).

Right Team played well and won the game! The most impressive was during Break-out where they manage to get a shot off the break at Ambush. Both Backman, KuDer and The Kid played their roles well supporting strong firepower for Frontman Noodles. Only drawback..Drew self-declared himself out of the game BUT return back! Good thing the ref was alert and call him out. haha

How Left Team Lost :
- Ambush was first to go. Poor break-out resulting in 2 man at the same bunker. Ambush main bunker was at Front Can Center. A slight confusion resulted and Right Team took advantage of it.
- SpiderMunkee was shot by own team-mate Nnemonic, when he was making a dive at 50Snake. *rolls eyes*
- Gurkha and Nnemonic, manage to down Noodles as he was going to 50 Can, gets ambitious and moves forward together without covering fire for each other. Gurkha made a good dive at 40 Tombstone whereelse Nnemonic made a jog to the 30 Can. Both of them was shot by The Kid, who had clear killing angle.
- It was 2 to one. Hazard, at 30 Tombstone, was pinned down by both KuDer and The Kid. A good shot takes him out as well.

Why Left Team lost :
Poor communication - As seen from Poor Break.
Poor field awareness - Unable to know where the opponents are thus making poor judgement. ie taking risky maneuver such as going to another bunker without cover fire.
Players unsure of their roles - Backman are the firepower, the ones who stay cool in their bunkers usually from 10s to 30s, and rain paint-hell on the opponents. Frontman are the damage dealers, going up close and personal. In this game, Backman Nnemonic ends up being a Frontman. Hazard was the only firepower Left Team could get. A grave mistake, as 2 man was instantly taken out by The Kid.

As Ollie Lang said, "If you want to be good, You gotta Lose. I hate to say that"
It is true, by playing more, we get to understand the game better and thus develop more awareness. Having both key elements of Field Awareness and Communication is key to winning a game.

After 4 straight losses, Left Team re-organise their tactics and have a go again, and won 5 games afterwards with 5v5 (Abg Adi joined the 4man team) :D Learn how to lose, and then we'll learn how to win. Cheers!

Time : 1000hrs till 1400hrs.

Rendezvous (RV) at Woodlands 0730hrs.

Return-To-Home (RTH) by 1800hrs...hopefully.

Location : Armour Paintball @ Octville Golf and Country Club, JB.

Attendance : As of date 11 Confirmed attendance so far. For those unconfirmed ones, please revert by 30Sept08 as we need to prepare the logistics; ie Transport.

Training : Basic Paintball Proficiency (BPP) such as Break-Out, Snap-Shooting, Running and Gunning. 3v3 Dry Man Drills. 3 Man Team Coord Drills. 3v3 Play-Offs. 5v5 Play-Offs. Do some read-ups on Paintball websites especially SplatXD Online Magazine to get a better understanding on the BPP. I will try to provide more info on the trainings as well at Sūtra.

Expected rounds to use: 700 to 1000 rounds per person. 5 Box as starters.
Estimated cost per person: 120RM - 150RM (Costing not inclusive of transport) Will confirm this by 15Oct08.

Things to bring : Long-sleeved Shirt, Long Pants, Covered shoes that are suitable for fields. Toiletries....

SpiderMunkee was a nick gave to me by the 'Kepala Otak Geng' a long time ago in my poly days. Honestly I do not know reason why they gave me the nick, neither do I like it at first. I mean, its a name of a type of monkey that have disproportionately long, spindly limbs and deftly prehensile tail. (If u wonder y my english so good, thats bcos i've got the description from Wikipedia :D) I have no probs with names like JaguarPaw or LoneWolf or LeopardSpots...but SpiderMonkey?? Well it didnt take long for the rest of the guys to adapt to my new unceremoniously given name. Most of them saved my name as Faizal Spidermonkey in handphone contacts. Its either that or Faizal Short. (There's 2 Faizals back then plus my height shares my most prominent feature..lolz) I finally gave up and start to accept it but I made a new adjustment to the spelling monkey as Munkee. Woke up to another day of paintballing! This time round its at ReDynasty Paintball park, the only 'field' with speedballing air bunkers.

The MtG event was a get-together session is for the paintball forum community to understand more about paintball and how you can go about playing regular speedball (i.e. tournament paintball) and participating in paintball tournament both locally and overseas. King and Calgar shared with us more tips such as learning to switch from shooting right-handed to lefthanded, positioning behind bunkers and so on.

3 guys including me from Team Karma turns up. We met more paintball enthusiast; Krank, Ben, Sham, James and Andy, who was already there. (We turn up late again..this time almost an hour late..lolz..not our fault, Isnaen just finished work, so we're late cos we gotta go fetch him ah) Thank god no harm was done again. It was raining so the game was not started yet, but we did miss some briefings though.

We played 5v5 recball; ie grab the flag, shoot cones..etc. Since Karma was understaffed by 2 pax, RD was kind enough to loan us 2 contract killers for free! Ive got to give 2 thumb ups to Dabian and Ah Seng (I hope i got ur names right..). They're both a fun bunch!

Our opponents put up a good fight as well. Ive got a good headshot from Krank for sticking out my head too long out of the A frame bunker. LoLz. Good one bro! I sense the 'Force' is strong in you guys..Cheers!

The day finally came for our first gathering on our speedball training. All of us had recball (recreational paintball) experience before but none had played speedball. Hence, that did not stop us from trying.

Prior to our team training, Abg Is from AP gave us valuable tips. To tuck behind bunkers, positioning, moving techniques etc. Our objectives were to develop communication, situation awareness; at the same time, have loads of fun!

Most of us work on shift, thus the choosing of the date to train itself is a challenge. Originally the first date of training was on the 24Aug08 but it was postponed as my leave was not approved. I have to give compliments to Najib and Irwan though. They worked night shift the day before. Though they bear clear signs of work tiredness, they never did once complain and was looking forward to the training. Thanks guys for your enthusiasm and participation!

Getting caught in a traffic jam at immigration custom is a norm nowadays. It lasted for almost 1 and 1/2 hours! But once we have passed that, the journey was pretty smooth. We arrived around 1015hrs (15mins late! haha..normal mah..superstarz). But no damage was done. Abg Adi was still busy setting up the air bunkers.

Shortly later, he showed us the markers and brief us on the technical handling aspects such as not to tilt the markers too much or the paintballs in the hopper will not properly feed in the loader. Already we could feel the adrenaline rush to start the game.

We started the game with an introductory rounds of 50 paintballs each. Thank god its only 50paints!

When the 'Game On' orders was given, all those briefing on communication, situation awareness, teamwork; went down the drain. All we could think of was 'KiLL! KiLL!' LoLz!! I guess all that hours stuck during the traffic jam have added more to the adrenaline.

The game started as soon it began, with all of us out of paint and panting for breath. It ended up in a tie on both sides. Yusri managed to get the flag but got shot by me on his way back..haha sorry bro. *cheap shot is still A SHOT :P*

All of us agreed that the first game was too fast, unorganised with zero communication. None of us knew what to do and we were all preoccupied with the opponent in front of us. We worked alone and not as a team. It was very messy. But it was still good to start with. It made us realised where our flaws and weaknesses lies.

Fortunately Abg Is from AP came by later on and generously dedicate some pointers as well as monitoring our next drill and suggested a more efficient way to train while saving our paints.

When we hit the 5v5 Play-Offs, all of us had already 'tune-in' to the art of paintballing. We played as a team, almost to a point of losing our voices from all that shouting relaying information.

There were various exceptional moments:

* Najib injured his left ankle but still push on to finish the last game.
* Yusri, the last man standing, was surrounded by our team but he managed to out-flanked me, and made a successful run for the flag!
* Khalid, Andrew and Fazli played outstanding defence in the 3v1 drills, moving aggresively from bunker to bunker giving a hard time to the 3 aggressors.
* Off the game, Isnaen and Salihin was very initiative, setting-up the water point and keeping the time in check. We were very tired and wanted longer and longer breaks in between games..lolz.

Everyone in Karma did their part well, but the most important values was that everyone was positive, open-minded and had loads of fun. There were constructive feedbacks in between games. Thanks to my wifey too who recorded and took pictures some of the gameplays. If not this post would be a dull wordy long boring post who I know most of you wont read past after the 1st paragraph..haha * winks at Yusri..*

Armour Paintball : The Recon

The journey to Armour Paintball from Singapore only took us around 45mins. The weather was good and the traffic smooth especially at the Customs.
We were greeted warmly by Budes who gave us a small tour at the place. The field is catered for speedballing. The bunkers were all deflated when we were there, giving us a chance to see how big the area is.
The pricing of bookings is even attractive. 275RM for 2000paintballs!! Its definitely good news for KARMA. That is about 0.06SGD per paint. 14cents cheaper than what the vendors in Sg is offering. Of course, playing at JB requires a lot more organising as compared to Sg and it does have its risks as well. Still, it does not burn our pockets too much and we get to have the much need training.
Can't wait for our first training there!

nu wildFROLICs : 2008

The 'BI$NES' tv-reality show started its production shooting from late month of October 2004 till the end of January 2005. The short 3 months were indeed grueling.

At times it got so bad that we end up strangling each other's neck (hahaa exaggerating of course. But I guess itll be a pretty good stress reliever). But the antagonizing moment usually did not last long. Eventually we found back our drive and motivation to move on.

On top of it, we had remarkably good response and most of the time, we were on the paintball arena ground. Some of the games were conducted for friends and specially created gameplays and tournaments for corporates. It was a lot fun to be facilitating such event!

We were thankful to the Management and Staff of Singapore Discovery Centre who has entrusted us to be a part of their promotion plans for Crossfire paintball.

Their trust and co-operation to outsource and support wildFROLICs participation in the young entrepreneur themed programme has sharpen our business knowledge and eventually, we emerged as the Champion, having the highest amount of profit.

January 2005, during the finale episode, we were announced as the winners of 'BI$NES'! Finally!! We were all happy and relieved that the gruesome challenges and tense was finally over and our efforts had paid off. Maziah, our team Finance Officer, was moved to tears. To add to her personal achievement, she has won the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. We knew then, we have performed well.

Hence, on the other hand, it was sad to realise that our facilitating at the paintball arena at SDC is over. We could try to win a contract or make further negotiation but we ourselves felt the complication and risk involved. Due to that, we have decided to stay 'employed' and frankly, not ready to make a foot in the real business world. Not right then.

February 2008, my friends suggested playing paintball! Wowww, my passion for paintball has never fade. This time around, we played at Orchid Country Club. How the memories flow back as I got into action with my paintball marker. Yes ah! This is indeed a good team bonding. Plus I get to unload a whole can of pain(t) and break sum bones!! **Evil Grin** Nah, I was just kidding - Paintball has enhanced camaderie throughout our experience working with our clients in the past.

July 2008, I found out that there is a 3rd Paintball Field in Singapore. Red Dynasty at Bottletree park, Yishun. The prices are much cheaper comparing to the 2 existing Paintball fileds. I ask around excitedly for more people to try it. Surprisingly, almost all my working colleagues have never heard of paintball. The response were the usual...no time, no money....
Thus we decided to jump into a new mission objective : Expanding the Paintball Community! With our newly joined friends, Khalid and Isnaen, we decided to be bold enough to explore..

Aug 2008, The first set-up of wildfrolics blog to attract paintballers to do the talking! Anything indoor, outdoor, equipments, gears, gameplay, experiences... ITS ALL ABOUT PAINTBALL.

So what will happened in 4 yrs time? I would rather asked 'what had happened for the last 4 years'. Paintball community has indeed grown fast but there are still people out there that have not even tried it yet. It is then every paintball enthusiast responsibility to reach out, touch, and grabbed that unsuspecting fellow men and drag him to the paintball field. We will see a very bright future for this Cheers'!

Why Paintball??!!

Paintball has given me alot of memories. I know, I know..what sort of memories of a game where people running around shooting each other with paint markers bring memories?

It all began back in November 2002 in Taiwan, just after 'Hari Raya Aidil Fitri'. I was still in my Active NS days and were doing a section level navigation exercise.

The training was intense. We had to carry a personal load of 20kg each and had walk a total of 40km navigating from checkpoints to checkpoints, stopping only for a minimum of 4 hours sleep and meals each day. We have to finish all the checkpoints before the fifth day or else, we would fail the whole exercise. Bahh! *eyes rolled with big sigh*

Tragedy struck on the 2nd day night. It was a cold and breezy night. What made it worst was that, there was no dry clothes to wear for the night! All my extra pairs of uniform were still wet from the leaking water bottle earlier that afternoon. *UWAHHH* (Water is very impt so all of us brought an extra 1.5kg of water each on top of our SAF issued 2 x 1kg of water bottle) I slept through the night in my wet clothings. 4am, the alarm rings from one of the guys digital watch. Hesitantly, I woke up and lift up my fieldpack. To my surprised it took me alot of strength just to lift it! Initially I had thought it was the cold that might have caused my strength to sap away. It was not until the 3rd day afternoon. We travelled in a small dried up tributary. The undergrowth vegetation was getting too thick so we had to get to higher ground. As I grabbed hold at one of the dangling braches with my left hand, I lost gripped and fell. I tried at it again with both my hands and pulled myself up with all my might. What seemed to be child's play for the rest to get out of the ditch seems like hell of an effort for me. Still thinking it still might be the cold. I massaged my left hand and kept it both warm. Temperature was at only 20degree's C. It could not be that bad.

But the worst happened. On the 4th night, I lost all sensation on my left hand! I could not feel it, could not grip. :( It just hang there like a dead animal. What the hell is happening to me? Am I losing my left hand? My team mates were as worried as me and they were already discussing to comms back to HQ to get the safety rover to fetch me out. Only 1 more checkpoint to go before the endpoint. We're almost done. I was losing hope..I might be losing my good left hand for good but at the same time I want to complete the exercise. "We should call them..he's not gonna make it.." I heard some of them said. I kept quiet through-out all those time, I did not want to jeopardise my team's progression and safety because of me. It as then one of them came to me and spoke. "Winner's are not those who lose..but those who never give up. 1 more checkpoint to go before endpoint. 5km more. We'll be back by sunrise. Then we'll get that arm of yours fixed up" That boost my spirit. And so we walked... the load was getting heavier and 1 by 1 my team mates helped to lighten the load by carrying it for me. Sunrise came and we were all at the endpoint with smile on our faces. That 5 day ordeal turn out to be the one and only lesson I had learnt and apply in life. Once you have set your vision on something, you should not let anything else stop you from getting it especially from your own self. In the end it was a battle between my mind and body. It was screaming for me to stop. But I ignored its petty cries and pushed on without complaints. I was inspired by the motion of my team mates who made it possible for me to pass that exercise. Since then, it became my motto in life. Winner's are not those who lose..but those who never give up.

My arm never did get fixed up over night, in fact It took 3 months to heal. Specialist said that it was one of my back muscles nerve system got damaged when carrying all those heavy loads. A few days later after the exercise, we went for our R&R. It was at one of the shopping centres that we came by a local indoor paintball arena. Hey paintball! We do not have those in Singapore or so I thought at that point of time. I want to try it! But guess what, I was all prep'd and ready when one of the facilitators came up to me and asked what happened to my left hand. I said I cant move it but I can still shoot the paintball marker using my good strong right hand. "No no..Hand no good. Cannot shoot." he said and grabeed the marker off from my hand. The team went on without me as watched from outside. They were having great fun and after that went on bragging how they got one another, how big their paintball bruise are and so on. LOLz.. Just watching them being happy had made me happy as well.

October 2004. The day of decision for wildFROLICs trio to choose their business idea. But what products or merchandise to sell? Maybe we could excel in the service line as most service bases enterprised in Singapore are doing well. Masitah (now my most beloved and supportive wife) proposes Bridal Services, Maziah (now my Sis-in-law) proposes doing a business model on Cash Convertors. My turn to speak on my idea. "Lets do Paintball." "Why Painball??!! Can we do that in here?" ask Mas. "Why not? Its challenging. Furthermore its fun and unique. I believe the community will appreciate if we could do something with the pricing. Make it affordable for the youngsters," answered smartly by the Mastermind (Me!).

So why paintball, didnt get it still?? Everytime I held a paintball marker, I kept thinking of that turning point event in Taiwan; the insensitive paintball faci - snatching of that 'gang-ho' marker. His words has pierced my ego to the core! But another phrase bounced back in defiance,

"Winner are not those who never lose. But those who never gives up"

Thats why its Painball.

wildFROLICs: born in 2004

wildFROLICs - a combination of english words, wild & frolic.

The name was created just a day before the 1st interview with the production house, back in 2004. Sourcing into the English dictionary to get a suitable name which describes the nature of the business (Paintball) and our personalities (Faizal, Maziah & Masitah).

wildfrolics Plural because we were a team of 3. We suggested the 'name' cos Masitah (one third of the fantastic team) was inspired of the restaurant wildfire, used to be at Suntec B1. The other two strong pillars of wF, Maziah & Faizal like the name and therefore, chop! stamped! `~ORIGINAL~`

The wF then came out with the design of the logo; the 'wildFROLICs' style.

The first move - We saw the TV programme's trailer looking out for contestants. Masitah approached Maziah with the idea, then she suggested we asked Faizal along.

wildFROLics; Initially a team of 3 youngsters aged 17 to 25 years old armed with an important mission to start; cultivate their own business in their partication of a Business Reality Show , an ½ hour 7-episode series that made its debut on weekly Sunday, December 2004 till January 2005.

From creating a business plan; planning a promotional budgets, canvassing for more funds to producing their own TV commercials, the teams had undergo a rough ride!

Simulated with real-life business challenges, the youths got the chance to showcase their entrepreneurial abilities like taking calculated risks, creative thinking; problem solving skills. wildFROLICs survived the gruelling tests and manages to make the most money at the end, they emerged as the Ultimate Champion; Winner of BI$NES reality-show, Mediacorp Suria.
